DETROIT – The University of Detroit Mercy College of Engineering & Science will serve as host for a pair of free, week-long teacher camps this summer, designed for high school teachers of all skill levels.

A Computer Science Teacher Bootcamp is set for July 24-28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day on the McNichols Campus of Detroit Mercy. High school teachers will learn how physical computing can be used to engage students in CS learning experiences along with how to implement culturally responsive computing around students’ interests in a CS classroom.

An Engineering & Technology High School Teacher Bootcamp follows the next week, July 31 through Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., also on the McNichols Campus. Teachers will learn about the engineering design process, as well as topics on material science and 3-D printing, through hands-on activities.

Each camp will offer skills for teachers to help improve student outcomes in Computer Science, Engineering and CAD courses. Incentives include stipends, a resource pack and State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) for those involved.

Both camps are free for high school teachers, thanks to generous sponsors Ford STEM and the National Science Foundation. Limited spots are available for both camps.
