PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP – Online retail giant Amazon still has plans to build a new facility in Pittsfield Township, southeast of Ann Arbor, after years of conversation.
Amazon spokesperson Steve Kelly confirmed construction is slated to begin this summer on a facility at 4700 Carpenter Road. However, a time frame for when it will open has not yet been determined.
“We’ll have a better idea of a potential launch schedule once both internal and external construction is complete,” Kelly wrote in an email to MLive/The Ann Arbor News.
The township planning commission initially OK’d plans for the nearly 143,000 square-foot single-story building in December 2021. The building, surrounded by more than 1,000 parking spaces, will become a “last mile” facility, serving as a hub for delivery vans whisking packages arriving overnight from larger distribution centers to homes within a shorter radius..
The Amazon facility was one of two within Washtenaw County in development in 2022. The other proposed warehouse near Ypsilanti received preliminary approval but Amazon cancelled the plan before construction began or it acquired the land.
“Launch dates are subject to change. Despite various macroeconomic pressures such as industry-wide supply chain and inflationary challenges, the Pittsfield Township facility has always remained in our plans, and we’ve kept close with our local partners,” Kelly wrote in an email. “We look forward to sharing more about a potential launch timeline when we can.”
