DETROIT — On November 9 MoGo will be hosting its first fundraising event, MoGo-A-GoGo. The event will celebrate MoGo’s continued leadership and success in providing equitable, accessible, and affordable transit across Detroit and southern Oakland County.

“MoGo has been a sustainable transit option in downtown Detroit and a community partner for many years,” said Nadia Sesay, Chief Community Growth and Development Officer at Bedrock, one of the sponsors.

“Bedrock remains committed to incorporating technology and mobility access as part of our city building efforts, it is essential to support partners like MoGo as they continue to grow and expand.”

Founded in 2017 with title sponsors Henry Ford Health and Health Alliance Plan, MoGo launched with 43 stations and 430 bikes across the Greater Downtown Detroit area. Today, MoGo’s system includes more than 80 stations and nearly 700 bikes – over 100 of which are pedal-assist e-bikes – across Detroit, Ferndale, Royal Oak, Oak Park, Berkley, and Huntington Woods.

Since launching in May of 2017, MoGo has averaged nearly 100,000 rides per year, offering a variety of passes and programs that represent an unmatched impact in Detroit’s micromobility landscape. Programs include the Access Pass, which offers unlimited MoGo rides for a year for $5 and is available to individuals who receive certain state benefits, Adaptive MoGo, which provides 16 alternative cycles that accommodate riders with a variety of needs and abilities, and Street Skills classes, which offer two ways for new riders to learn how to bike and get comfortable biking in high-traffic areas.

Other initiatives include MoGo’s Pay With Cash program, which allows unbanked MoGo riders to pay for passes using DivDat kiosks or CashApp, and the Connect/D program, through which MoGo has spent the past two years conducting research and implementation strategies that will better connect Detroit’s various methods of transportation.

“MoGo-A-GoGo represents a crucial milestone for our organization,” said Adriel Thornton, executive director of MoGo. “We believe that sustainable urban mobility is not just a means of transportation, but a pathway to a healthier, more connected, and greener city. By participating in this event, you’re not only supporting bikeshare in Metro Detroit, but also contributing to the future of how our city moves.”

While the event will highlight many of MoGo’s accomplishments since 2017, milestones from the past year are particularly significant.

– New Stations: In fall of 2022, MoGo expanded to Belle Isle, adding three stations to the State Park. In October, a station was added at the foot of the MacArthur Bridge near E Jefferson and E Grand Blvd to create a station connection between Belle Isle and the Riverwalk. MoGo also added five new stations to Milwaukee Junction, the North End, and the Michigan Central Campus.

– New Equipment: MoGo added its first-ever solar charging station, and two e-charging stations connected to the electrical grid. These additions have allowed MoGo’s operations team at Shift Transit to charge bikes in the field, rather than the warehouse. MoGo also added nearly 30 new e-bikes with upgraded features like speedometers, gear-shifting capabilities, and a charging status display.

– New Technology: This summer, MoGo transitioned to a native pass-purchasing technology called TabClix, allowing MoGo riders to select a pass, create an account, and unlock a bike all from MoGoDetroit.org, rather than an app. This process has sped up the mobile sign-up process, encouraged new rides, and revolutionized MoGo’s accessibility.

“MoGo moves Detroit,” said Scott Benson, City Councilmember from District Three, non-motorized transit advocate, and MoGo-A-GoGo Host Committee member. “MoGo has been, and continues to be, an integral part of Detroit’s transit and mobility landscape. Whether people ride to commute, for health and fitness, recreationally, or for tourism, having MoGo as an option is a game-changer for Detroit.”

MoGo invites the entire community, local businesses, and biking enthusiasts to join in the celebration of
sustainable, active transportation.
