LANSING – A new group has formed with the goal of changing Michigan’s laws affecting motor vehicle sales, with the Freedom to Buy coalition saying it was comprised of groups that had more than 250,000 individuals as members.

The group is focused on recently approved legislation that requires most motor vehicles to be sold by dealers. The legislation specifically blocked efforts by Tesla Motors to open company-owned stores and service centers to sell its increasingly popular electric vehicles.

Joining with the coalition is the Michigan Christian Coalition, the Michigan Moose Association, ConservAmerica, the Michigan Conservative Energy Forum and the Michigan Federation of College Republicans.

The announcement comes two days after a ballot committee – Eliminate(i) – was announced as the brainchild of a recent college graduate to challenge the law limiting auto company stores.
