ANN ARBOR – Michael Finney, 65, former CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Ann Arbor SPARK passed away on April 3 from a heart attack.
Since 2017, Finney was president and CEO of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, a nonprofit public-private economic development organization in Florida.

“Mike was a dynamic leader and supporter of all Michigan economic development efforts and was a friend to the venture community. Anytime he was on the agenda for an event or meeting to speak, I looked forward to his comments. He was inspiring, positive and truly wanted what was best for our state – he will be greatly missed” said Ara Topouzian, Executive Director of MVCA.
Finney served as a senior advisor on economic growth for former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and was president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC) as well as other Michigan economic development organizations.
“The MEDC team mourns the loss of Mike Finney, as one of the most passionate, charismatic and committed leaders in the world of economic development,” the MEDC said in a recent statement.

A celebration of life is scheduled for April 21st in Southfield
