LANSING – A new poll from EPIC/MRA suggests President Barack Obama is enjoying a bump from the Democratic National Convention and that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s task in Michigan is growing more difficult.

The survey, commissioned by the Detroit Free Press and several television stations put Obama at 47 percent and Romney at 37 percent. The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points. It was conducted Saturday through Tuesday. The firm’s last poll, conducted August 28, showed Obama at 49 percent and Romney at 46 percent.

The new survey also put U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Lansing) at 49 percent compared to 38 percent for Republican senatorial candidate Peter Hoekstra.

The survey of 600 likely voters saw 43 percent identify as Democrats, 38 percent as Republicans and 16 percent as independents with the rest refusing to answer.
