LANSING – Every labor market in Michigan saw a drop of at least 1 full percentage point in their annual average unemployment rate from 2014 to 2015, reports the Department of Technology, Management and Budget.

What’s more, just about every labor market in the state reported their jobless rates fell in December, from November.

The Ann Arbor market had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.6 percent in December, down from 2.9 percent in November.

The Grand Rapids labor market also saw its jobless rate decline to below 3 percent in December, falling to 2.8 percent from 3 percent in November.

The Lansing-East Lansing market had the third lowest rate at 3.2 percent in December, down from 3.4 percent in November.

The Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market saw its jobless rate increase to 5.4 percent in December from 5.2 percent in November.

The highest jobless rate belonged to the Northeast Lower Michigan market that stood at 7.1 percent, up from 6.6 percent in December.

Also up was the Northwest Lower Michigan market to 5 percent from 4.7 percent in November, and the Upper Peninsula market which went to 5.7 percent in December from 5.5 percent in November.

In terms of county jobless rates in December, Ottawa and Washtenaw counties tied at 2.6 percent, while Kent was right behind at 2.7 percent.

Mackinac County, heavily dependent on tourism, had the highest jobless rate at 14.5 percent. Cheboygan County had the second highest jobless rate at 11 percent.

Wayne County, Michigan’s largest county, had a December jobless rate of 6.4 percent.
