LANSING – A poll released Monday by EPIC/MRA, paid for by Energy Choice Now, which advocates for deregulation of the electric market, showed broad opposition by a margin of 74-11 to legislation that would eliminate electric choice. Among that, six in 10 people polled were strongly opposed, and 53 percent of those polled said electric choice should be expanded.
The poll was quickly derided as biased in nature by proponents of a fully regulated market and eliminating the 10 percent choice cap.
“The poll results are deliberately misleading since the questions are written in a biased and slanted way specifically intended to generate headlines rather than thoughtful debate,” said Kelly Rossman-McKinney, spokesperson for Citizens for Michigan’s Energy Future, which opposes choice. “The poll deliberately leaves out other key issues critical to putting Michigan first in a comprehensive energy policy like fairness, reliability, Michigan job creation and clean energy.”
