LANSING – After
initially urging caution on a proposal to raise the Corporate Income Tax from 6
percent to 11 percent and directing the new revenue to roads, the Michigan
Building Trades has now decided to endorse the proposal.
There was no
word from Building Trades officials, but Citizens for Fair Taxes, the group
backing the proposal, said in a statement that the union had joined the
coalition in favor of the plan.
“We
appreciate the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council for their
strong support of the Fair Fix ballot proposal that would make corporations,
not just middle class and working families, pay their fair share when it comes
to fixing our crumbling roads and bridges,” Tom Lutz, spokesman for
Citizens for Fair Taxes, said in a statement.
Messages
left with Building Trades officials were not returned.
The initial
unions to support the proposal were the Michigan Laborers, the Operating
Engineers and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
