DETROIT – In spite of the heavy focus during the last several years on connected and autonomous vehicles – particularly in Michigan, much less attention has been paid to the infrastructure required to support these vehicles. On Monday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m. at RIIS in Troy Mobile Monday Detroit will hear from Michigan-based experts about CAV infrastructure projects taking place in the state and what is required going forward.
Enabling a vehicle to travel along a road with the human driver partially or completely unengaged in driving the vehicle, or without any driver at all, requires a fundamental change in how vehicles operate. Critical to their operation is infrastructure. The kind of infrastructure CAVs will require depends on which technologies become commonplace, but will at minimum require the ability for the CAVs to communicate with other vehicles, traffic lights, weather sensors, improved pavement markings for cameras, radar and laser-mapping tools to determine where they are, mobile apps and more.
Specific areas to be explored at the event include:
· Infrastructure being designed and built to prepare for CAV testing at the American Center for Mobility
· CAV-related infrastructure projects taking place in Oakland County
· CAV-related infrastructure and testing projects taking place throughout Michigan
