DETROIT – Starting May 1st two big grant competitions for businesses in Detroit are opening up, the Hatch Detroit retail competition, and the NEIdeas small business growth competition. These two grants will award entrepreneurs cash to open up shop or grow their companies in Detroit.

Hatch Detroit is a $50,000 award for the 1st place winner, who must participate in their social media campaigns to gain votes to reach the top. Since the contest launched in 2011, 25 entrepreneurs have opened a storefront, four are opening soon and 20 are operating as pop-up locations. Some of the past alum include popular brands such as Sister Pie, Detroit Vegan Soul, The Natural Market. NEIdeas is awarding $400,000 to small business who are located inside the city of Detroit, Hamtramck, or Highland Park. To apply you must be operating in the city for at least one year, and in operation for at least three years. #NEIdeas has a very simple application process, and will be awarding grant sizes of $10,000 up to $100,000.
