STERLING HEIGHTS ? The newly formed Michigan Chapter of Women In Defense will hold its first membership meeting on Nov. 27 at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy. The Michigan chapter is the tenth and boosts national membership to more than 1,400.
WID supports advancement of Michigan women in all defense and technology industrial sectors and military services. Its members gain access to multiple sources of defense industry information and to many new professional contacts. The national non-profit Women in Defense was formed in 1985.
The new WID-Michigan chapter will work alongside the National Defense Industries Association Michigan chapter to develop programs that can benefit all members of the defense and national security communities. NDIA members represent large and small defense companies, all branches of the Armed Forces, federal government agencies, academia and associations.
?Michigan has a large defense base, so we have many opportunities to provide professional development and networking opportunities for women in this important industry,? says Julie Stackpoole, President of the new WID-Michigan chapter.
WID Michigan?s first membership meeting will be November 27, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy, Michigan. Reservations should be made no later than Tuesday, November 20.
?We encourage everyone interested in membership to attend and learn what WID Michigan has to offer and to review our calendar of valuable events,? Stackpoole said. ?We will introduce our board who collectively have over 100 years of technical and defense experience: Janet Iwanski, VP Community Liaison; Susan Williams, VP Communications; Jennifer DeWalls, VP Professional Development and Secretary; and Roxanna Bundy, Treasurer.?
