SOUTHFIELD – Kathryn Ossian, an IT practice leader at Miller Canfield, will talk about what businesses need to know about privacy and data breach notification laws Oct. 16 at the next meeting of Motor City ISSA.
Ossian will address applicable federal privacy laws, identity theft and data breach notification laws in Michigan and California and the impact of these laws on businesses trying to protect their customer and employee data. Registration deadline is Oct. 13.

Ossian is a principal and leader of the firm�??s Information Technology Team, as well as deputy leader of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group. Her intellectual property and commercial litigation practice covers twenty-one years and includes extensive experience in negotiating and drafting software licensing agreements, distribution and maintenance and other information technology agreements, computer law, consulting clients in Internet law and intellectual property dispute resolution. Since 2001, she is a certified faculty member at the University of Phoenix, and presently teaches graduate level courses on Managing Enterprise Risk and the Legal Environment of Business.
She received her law degree, magna cum laude, from the Detroit College of Law where she was managing editor of Casenotes. Her B.A. in economics is from Michigan State University. She is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, Oakland County Bar Association, Armenian-American Bar Association (past president) and Automation Alley, presently serving as chair of the Membership Services Committee. She is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Michigan Electronic Crimes Task Force and on the Advisory Board for the Michigan Technology Conference. She is a member of the Executive Board of Directors and a former Troop Leader with the Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit Council.
