TROY ? Walsh College on Tuesday appointed Jeffrey Livermore, Ph.D., as chairman of its Business Information Technology and Information Assurance Department. He will administer degree programs and curriculum for the bachelor and master of science degrees in business information technology, and for the master of science in information assurance degree.

Livermore, who?s appointment is effective on September 28, fills a position that had been vacant. Nan Poulios, who will report to Livermore, remains director of the Walsh College Information Assurance Education Center.

?I look forward to working with an institution that has the foresight to already lead the nation in information security education,? Livermore said. ?Walsh College has put a cutting-edge curriculum in place for information assurance that makes it one of the few schools in the country that maps to the latest National Security Agency and Homeland Security Standards, and it was the first Michigan school and one of only 70 nationwide to be named a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.?

Livermore joins Walsh College with more than 25 years of software development experience in the academic, health care, insurance, and automotive computing environments. Most recently he was with the Monroe Public Schools as the district?s director of technology. Prior to that, Livermore was with the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute as its chief information officer.

Livermore received his bachelor of science degree from Wayne State University, and his master of science degree in administration from Central Michigan University. He recently completed his doctoral degree in business and information technology at Florida?s Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Livermore is an adjunct professor at Lawrence Technological University and has taught at the ITT Technical Institute.

He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), the Network and Systems Professionals Association (NaSPA), and Upsilon Pi Epsilon, a software engineering honor society.

The Walsh College MSIA degree is the only one offered online by a local college, and is one of the most affordable online degrees in the country.
