DETROIT ? VisionIT has hired former Civil Air Patrol Commander Amy Courter as Chief Information Officer. Courter will lead the planning and implementation of enterprise information systems supporting both distributed and centralized business operations.

Prior to joining VisionIT, Courter served as National Commander of the United States Air Force Auxiliary, the Civil Air Patrol. During her tenure, Courter?s strategic vision and leadership grew CAP?s membership by more than 5,000, bolstering CAP?s numbers to over 61,000 professionals serving in her command across the nation and Puerto Rico. Courter?s leadership also grew CAP?s partnerships and expanded its customer base, as well as increased CAP?s scholarship funding by more than 50 percent.
Courter also served in increasingly more significant leadership roles at Valassis, a $2.3 billion public marketing services corporation, for 20 years. First as a manager, and later as Vice President of Information Technology and Telecommunications, Courter oversaw all Information Technology operations and initiatives. She also led the Telecommunications Division where she forged a collaborative environment inwhich the two previously separate teams worked in harmony, sharing workload and cross-training for advanced development of employees.
Courter earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Education from Kalamazoo College, as well as secondary teaching certification in psychology, computer science and math. She continues to serve her alma mater as an officer on the Board of Trustees. Courter currently resides in South Lyon, Michigan.
