SOUTHFIELD – Virus Infection was the single biggest cause of the worst security incidents for UK companies in the past two years, reports a departmental survey of the British Government.
According to findings of the 2006 Department of Trade and Industry’s biennial Information Security Breaches Survey, 40 percent of these incidents were described as having a serious impact on the business. The complete report will be launched at Infosecurity Europe in London, 25-27th April.
Infections caused by Viruses and Worms have created the largest number of service interruptions compared to other incidents. A quarter of the companies who partook in the survey reported major destructions like email system wreck and more.
Another important finding of the survey is that 25 percent of the companies do not have protection against spyware, one of the biggest threats in business information integrity. As a result, one in seven of the incidents have been caused by spyware intrusion through web access.
One-fifth of the companies questioned in the survey said that they do not update signature files and antidotes within a day. ?Automatic Virus, spyware and other malware signature update across the enterprise with minimal over-head to the administrator is a key need in the new world Enterprise Security. The idea is to have an Integrated Security Policy across the organization with maximum automation to shut out the window of human errors.? says Govind Rammurthy, CEO, MicroWorld Technologies Inc, after analyzing the survey.
