SAN FRANCISCO – Security software maker Symantec’s rivals are chipping away at its market-leading position as the company deals with the departure of two executives key to its $10.3 billion Veritas Software acquisition, a slowing consumer market, and future price cuts.

McAfee has won customers by cutting deals with computer makers like Dell, while the expected entry of Microsoft into the consumer security market next year could also squeeze Symantec.
