KALAMAZOO ? Faith Heikkila, a security practitioner who is working towards completing a PhD in Information Assurance at Nova Southeastern University, was awarded the Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation graduate school scholarship.
Heikkila, a member of IEEE, InfraGard, and ISSA also serves on the Grand Valley State University Hall of Fame Board, and on the boards of ConnecTech?s Kalamazoo chapter, and Michigan InfraGard.
She was one of seven women honored by the council at its annual Partnership Recognition Event with scholarships and technology stipends to support their continued pursuit of education and research in the IT field. More than 35 partner companies, and individuals, who made substantial donations to the MCWT Foundation funding for these winners were honored, as were the lucky winners, themselves.
One of the deserving recipients was Faith Heikkila, a well known security practitioner, who is working toward completion of her PhD in information assurance.
Heikkila is expected to complete her dissertation on secure remote access in 2009. She has written 11 computer security-oriented whitepapers, and has been a presenter at multiple security-focused conferences and forums, organized by ISSA, Infragard, SecureWorld, GLIMA, and a number of educational institutions and community organizations.
She holds a Graduate Certificate in Information Assurance (approved by NSA), a Master of Science degree in MIS, and an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. She was inducted into the Upsilon Pi Epsilon International Honor Society for Computer Science in 2004.
