DETROIT ? The idea of a company losing all of its data to a virus is scary, but imagine if hackers can use this information for profit or to harass customers. The results could be devastating to a nonprofit whose lifeline is its donors. NPower Michigan is asking nonprofit agencies to imagine these scenarios, while attending the NPower Michigan Tech Security Day on July 29.

NPower Michigan?s Tech Security Day will begin at 9 a.m. at Focus: HOPE Conference Center at 1400 Oakman in Detroit.

?As the nation becomes more knowledgeable in security issues, it is up to each of us to equip ourselves with the necessary tools to protect our systems,? said Wendy Ernzen, community relations manager, NPower Michigan. ?Tech Security Day is an opportunity for nonprofits to gain that knowledge free of charge.?

NPower Michigan recruits highly qualified volunteers that care about the technological health of nonprofits in the community. Accenture and Focus: HOPE among other organizations has committed knowledgeable volunteers for Tech Security Day, designed to help leaders in the nonprofit world, who handle confidential donor information, protect themselves against the various threats that can affect internal computer systems. By the end of the event, participants will have the knowledge and tools to help their agencies prevent security breaches through best practices. Volunteers also will install Zone Alarm, firewall software that will protect computers from hackers and other threats.
