ANN ARBOR ? More publicity, including a new branding campaign, is in the offing for InfraGard, representatives for the InfraGard Midwest Regional Council were told during the group?s fall meeting.

A public relations plan is coming together that also will include more mentions of InfraGard by the FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security. InfraGard chapters will be taught how to deal with the press, and use press resources more effectively to get InfraGard?s name in the news.

InfraGard also may develop a Sector Chief program with the Department of Homeland Security. One of InfraGard?s weaknesses is its inability to communicate with vertical security sectors.

The FBI also is studying a Foreign Affiliate Program to allow foreign nationals to participate to share overseas security information with InfraGard chapters. To participate, the foreign affiliate most be involved in a critical infrastructure and must be referred by at least three InfraGard members.

Delegates also were told Midwest InfraGard is look at best practices from the region?s chapters to find out what worked for each in terms of Awareness, Education, Information Sharing, Relation building and educational meetings with the public, which could become a source of new members.

The meeting concluded with Larry Shattuck of West Michigan InfraGard and Doug Roden of the Cincinnati, Ohio, chapter getting elected unanimously as the Midwest Regional leadership.
