NOVI ? The High Technology Crime Investigation Association and Michigan InfraGard are co sponsoring a free seminar in December on how to protect yourself, your families and your executives from predators who can locate their personal information online.

Weapons of Mass Deception will be held at the Walsh College Novi campus at 41500 Gardenbrook Road, Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. to Noon. The seminar will demonstrate how your private lives and public information are available through websites as well as ?Invisible Web? sources and Blogs.

Property records, liens, loans and judgments, lawsuits, newspaper articles, donations, death, birth and all that is in between help us to trace individuals and corporate moves. Much of this information is located for free on the World Wide Web. We will identify the sources for this information; compare them to each other based on quality and cost.

Attendees will receive the Opt Out Formula, an information sheet pointing out the various public record vendors, and the opt out procedures for each.

The session will be taught by Cynthia Hetherington, principal of Hetherington Information Services, LLC, a New Jersey based Competitive Intelligence and Business Research consultancy. She has over 15 years of experience in conducting text based, Internet and online database research, including a specialization in training law enforcement and private industry professionals’ online investigative skills. She holds a Master of Library Science from Rutgers University and a Master in Science for the Management of Information Systems from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
