LANSING – Please make plans to attend an Infragard event next week that everyone should have interest in, though not too many really want to talk about. The event
I thought it was your turn to watch the data: Issues and strategies in dealing with compromised information but if you want a quick sound bite to invite friends to come, I suggest you use something a bit shorter, like Who moved my data?
The event will feature Don Blumenthal, a senior Principal with Global Cyber Risk, LLC and an Adjunct Professor at U of M School of Information and MSU School of Criminal Justice. Don will be covering relevant statutes and regulations concerning disclosure of sensitive information, both current and pending. As anyone in the industry knows, the amount of new legislation being crafted to tie the hands of IT and corporations related to any type of data exposure is proliferating at a bacteria like rate. Keeping up to speed on what new regulations and laws you don’t want to trip over can become a full time hobby, and attending this event can help dispel some of that quiet panic building up from your being out of the loop too long.
The event is scheduled for January 29th at the Michigan State Library and Historical Center, in their Forum Auditorium on the 1st floor. The Library is located at 717 W. Allegan Street in Lansing. For those that need a zip for mapquest or gps, it is 48915, and you can call for help at (517) 373-6362.
After Don is finished putting the fear of the law into you, a panel will discuss data breach response. Dan Lohrmann, Acting CTO Director, State of Michigan will moderate Trent Carpenter, the acting CISO for the State, Tim Crothers, Lead IT Security Specialist for Alticor, Faith M. Heikkila, CIPP, Regional Security Services Manager for the Pivot Group and Steve Tobias, Lead Security Engineer for Spectrum Health Systems.
The event starts at 8:30 and runs till noon. A full agenda outline and online registration can be found at ConnecTech.Org
