TROY – Walsh College has been re-certified through June 2013 for mapping its information assurance courses to five of six national security standards. It is the only Michigan school so certified.
.
Re-certification is a step toward Walsh being re-designated in 2009 as a Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security.
The College is among 93 schools in 37 states and the District of Columbia to attain the designation.
The Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation (IACE) Program re-certified Walsh courseware for mapping to Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) National Training Standards that apply to information systems security (INFOSEC) professionals (NSTISSI No. 4011) and systems certifiers (NSTISSI No. 4015).
The IACE also evaluated and validated the curriculum and determined that it meets CNSS National Training Standards for senior systems managers (CNSSI No. 4012); system administrators (CNSSI No. 4013); and advanced level information systems security officers (CNSSI No. 4014 Entry Level).
According to the IACE evaluators: ??The College has many professional, experienced instructors who have backgrounds in the legal arena or information technology. This may enhance some of the classroom discussions, as these individuals can easily provide examples of real-world situations or relevant case law related to this field of study.?
On June 4, Business Information Technology Chair and Professor Jeffrey Livermore and Associate Professor Nan Poulios were recognized at the 12th Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education (CISSE) in Richardson, Texas.
