WASHINGTON DC – Defense Department CIO Teri Takai is leaving her post, effective Friday, FedScoop has confirmed. Takai was the Michigan CIO under former Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

A source close to Takai confirmed her planned departure, but declined to provide additional details.

Takai has served as the Pentagon?s CIO since 2010, and has managed the day-to-day operations of a $38 billion + IT budget ? one of the biggest IT budgets in the world.

Since joining DOD, Takai has served as the principal adviser to the Secretary of Defense for information management, IT and information assurance, as well as non-intelligence space systems, critical satellite communications, navigation, and timing programs, spectrum and telecommunications.

Takai also previously served as CIO for the State of California. As a member of the Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger cabinet, she advised the governor on the strategic management and direction of information technology resources as the state worked to modernize and transform the way California does business with its citizens.
