YPSILANTI – The National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and the Center for Regional and National Security at Eastern Michigan University launched its eighth School of Computer Forensics on Sept. 10. This six-week training program will add 20 new computer forensic examiners for the state of Michigan in their battle against Internet Child Pornography, Fraud, ID Theft and other cyber related crimes.
EMU also started this semester with 20 new Information Assurance Students. Many of these students are transfers from Henry Ford Community College, Washtenaw Community College and Oakland Community College.

IA ? 325. Cyber Crime Investigation I,
Tuesdays, 5:30 to 8:00, 16 Roosevelt Hall.
Credit Hours: three
This course is part one of a two sequence course of study. It is designed to prepare students to become effective cyber crime investigators. The course examines the basic steps required in hardware identification, TCP-IP, rules of electronic evidence, and DOS., network investigation, case management and intrusion detection.
IA ? 327, Course Title: Computer Forensics I
Wednesday, 5:30 to 8:00, 6 Roosevelt Hall
Credit Hours: three
This course addresses the comprehension and application of Computer Forensic Investigations. Students will evaluate and synthesize technical and legal issues in relation to digital evidence. Students will apply various skills and techniques, combined with numerous investigative software tools to analyze seized electronic media. Students must comply with special admission requirements prior to taking this course.
EMU also enrolled 20 new PHD candidates of which 4 are continuing their educational studies in Information Assurance.
EMU also announces their first NSA/CISCO/IDS funded research center devoted to Cyber Security undergraduate/graduate research in many areas related to network security and computer forensics.
