YPSILANTI ? Eastern Michigan University will be dedicating its Experiential Learning Center, aimed at training the next generation of Information Assurance professionals on Oct. 25.
The new 15,000 square foot security lab is the brainchild of
Gerald ?Skip? Lawver, an Associate Professor in the School of Technology Studies at EMU as well as Director of Information Assurance at the Undergraduate and Graduate Levels.
?It?s been three years in the works,? Lawver said. ?We?ve had a number of public and private contributions, including the National Security Agency which donated $40,000 in remodeling costs, $10,000 from the EMU Foundation, $5,000 from the office of Research & Development. IDS also donated 1.3 terabyte servers. We?re still looking for $87,000 to install air conditioning.?<./p>
Lawver said the lab should be open by winter 2008. It will serve as an R&D center for students working on their Ph.Ds in Information Assurance.
