TROY ? Automation Alley is hosting a conference June 14 designed to create an awareness among companies whose trade secrets and other confidential data may be compromised by hackers who infiltrate their networks.

Last year alone, cyber thieves cost U.S. companies $400 billion in intellectual property (IP) while severely undermining our nation?s global competitiveness and national security. The hidden-yet-real threats include lone rangers poaching trade secrets purely for the adrenaline rush to state-sponsored targeting of companies, universities, government laboratories and other R&D institutions.

Although the usual suspects include China, India and Russia, they can also be friends and allies?not to mention fellow competitors or coworkers in the next cubicle. Wherever the threat comes from, companies need to be armed with the know-how required to protect themselves.

The conference will be moderated by Matt Roush, editor of the Great Lakes Innovation and Technology Report (GLITR). Guest speakers include Thomas Rankin and Chris Bartolo, special agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The conference will feature case studies from company executives whose networks have been breached, including a discussion on what safeguards were implemented to mitigate future risks of espionage. We?ve also invited U.S. Representative Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, to keynote the event. Rogers is a nationally-renowned expert on cybersecurity issues.
