ANN ARBOR – University of Michigan’s Mcity testing track was the site for U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao to announce new policy changes related to autonomous vehicles.
State and university officials, along with automotive and manufacturing officials, gathered at UM’s Mcity, 2901 Baxter Road, Sept. 12, to hear Chao talk about the updated policies.
After being introduced by UM President Mark Schlissel, Chao called Mcity a “very special place” before addressing the Department of Transportation’s new Automated Driving Systems: A Vision for Safety 2.0.
The policy itself is “not a static document,” Chao said, and her staff is already working on Version 3.0 and incorporating issues like cybersecurity as the industry gains momentum.
“As the technology advance and the department gathers new and more information from stakeholders and consumers, we will continue to refine and update this guidance,” Chao said.
