ANN ARBOR – Chuck Newman, who overcame business and personal crises to build ReCellular, the second largest company in the secondary user market for wireless handsets, will spin his story Tuesday night at SPARK Central – a story that will renew your entrepreneurial spirit.

Newman founded ReCellular at age 55. The company now processes more than 250,000 phones per month. His success story spans 45 years of entrepreneurship – beginning with the company he started at the University of Michigan in 1961. His other start-ups have included Astrotype (the first computerized word processor company), CompuMart (the first retail computer store) and Rent-A-Byte (the first computer rental store). He was a founder and on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Ann Arbor and a member of the Board of Directors of Gelman Science.
He also finds time to do volunteer work as Vice Chairman for International Affairs of the Board of Directors of Hillel, the Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, EMU Hillel, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Jewish Conference, the International Myeloma Foundation, the NephCure Foundation, and the Wireless Foundation.
The program runs from 5 to 7 pm at the Ann Arbor IT Zone, 330 E. Liberty. The cost is $25 for non members and $5 for students. Ann Arbor IT Zone members get in for free.
