TRAVERSE CITY ? Sandy Franklin, one of the newest members of GLIMANorthwest, is an attorney who focuses her law practice on helping high-tech companies with technology development and resolving disputes. In her spare time, she also runs a Bed and Breakfast just west of Traverse City called Bahia Vista ? Bay View in Spanish.

Franklin, President and Founder of Technology ADR, is immediate past Chairperson of the Computer Law Section of the Michigan Bar. Prior to hanging out her own shingle, she worked as General Counsel for a global software company, and, while in private practice, served as the Michigan Economic Development Corp., the Michigan Biotech Institute, and other technology incubators.

She has served as an arbitrator in hundreds of cases, including software disputes, ICANN domain name disputes, defense contracting disputes, insurance mass claims, mandatory consumer arbitration programs, and general commercial cases. Her mediation experience ranges from neighborhood disputes to complex international patent disputes.

Franklin cut here teeth on technology as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate General officer in the U.S. Army, and then as Intellectual Property Counsel for General Dynamics Land Systems.

Franklin is a long-time participant in Alternative Dispute Resolution and serves as a certified Arbitrator and Mediator on several panels, including the World Intellectual Property Organization, the National Arbitration Forum, the American Arbitration Association, and the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution. She also served on the Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel for the Library of Congress. Franklin frequently conducts case evaluations for the local courts and is a member of several Michigan court-certified Mediator lists.

And when she’s in Traverse City, she operates her new five-guest room Bed & Breakfast, which includes a lovely view of Traverse Bay from the deck in the back, and a charming countryside view from the porch in the front. Occassionally, on one of those porches, you might find Franklin.
