ANN ARBOR – The Robotics Industry Association is accepting nominations for the 2006 Engelberger Robotics Awards that will be presented at the 37th International Symposium on Robotics/AUTOMATICA this May in Germany. The award is named after the Joseph Engelberger, the founding force behind industrial robotics.

Engelberger was president of Unimation, the world’s first industrial robot manufacturer. The Engelberger Robotics Award is the world’s highest and most prestigious robotics honor and is presented annually to outstanding individuals with significant achievements in the areas of application, education, leadership, and technology development.

Since its inception in 1977, the awards have been presented to 97 robotics leaders from 15 different countries. Each winner receives a $4,000 honorarium and a commemorative medallion with the inscription, ?Contributing to the advancement of the science of robotics in the service of mankind.?
