TRAVERSE CITY – Business owners and technology professionals from throughout the Grand Traverse region will gather for a four-part seminar series that will teach companies how planning ahead can help them survive major business interruptions. The series is co hosted by GLIMANorthwest and the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Business Continuance Planning series will focus on the strategies and tools companies need to keep the doors open and customers served during and after a natural disaster or other major business interruption.

Fires, floods, tornados and other natural disasters can wipe out a business that isn?t prepared. Recent events including hurricanes along the Gulf coast, flooding in the northwest and fires on the west coast have made this a timely topic for business owners and employees alike. But, it doesn?t take a Hurricane Katrina to shut down a business down. Extended power outages, computer crashes and computer viruses can grind a business to a halt. Business owners must prepare in order to survive.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, 40 percent of businesses impacted by a natural disaster never re-open; another 25 percent fail within one year of the disaster. Failure to plan for the worst can cost businesses hundreds of thousands of dollars and jeopardize the livelihood of their owners and employees.

The four-part Business Continuance Planning series, which began February 23rd,

also has sessions scheduled for April 6, May 25 and June 8. All the sessions will be held at the M-TEC Center on Aero Park Drive in Traverse City. The event is free and seating is limited to the first 50 registrants.
