ANN ARBOR ? GLIMAWALA hosted its second networking event in February, a Tech 5:01 at Leopold Brother?s in Ann Arbor, which attracted 30 attendees, including eight potential new members.

The highlight of the event was a tour of the brewery by Scott Leopold, who demonstrated how spirits and beer are made using environmentally sustainable processes, said GLIMAWALA Treasurer Carol Himelhoch. But seeing new faces was equally important, she said.

?I think we are building a positive momentum,?? Himelhoch said. ?Part of it is getting the word out. Part of it is letting people know our niche in Ann Arbor. Some people have been asking us how we are different from the IT Zone.

?What we?ve discovered in the area is you have your IT folks, like those who attend meetings at the IT Zone, and then the overall generalists who interface with technology. We?re creating a bridge between the tech specialists and everyone else.?

The other way GLIMAWALA will attempt to build its own brand is by emphasizing some of the interactive marketing activities upon which GLIMA was originally built, Himelhoch said. Plus GLIMAWALA is looking to recruit students from the area universities and colleges.

?The whole point is to further the mission of creating technology jobs in the state,? she said. ?There is a great opportunity for us to spread our appeal.?
