KALAMAZOO ? GLIMASouthwest kicked off a new era on Sept. 15 when it officially became the Information Technology arm of the Kalamazoo Regional Chamber at a Tech 5:01 networking event at the Chamber?s headquarters.

About 40 people attended the mixer, which was funded by GLIMASouthwest Silver Sponsor, CTS Telecom.

?We?re going to use the Chamber?s marketing resources,?? said Paul Nevills of MPI Research, the GLIMASouthwest Vice President. ?The Chamber will promote joint events on the Chamber web site we?ll promote chamber events on ours.?

The new partnership also was developed a joint GLIMA-Chamber membership. For $75, technology professionals in greater Kalamazoo can join both groups. Chamber membership start around $300 a year.

Nevills said GLIMASouthwest was close to disbanding last spring when it approached the Chamber about partnering.

?We weren?t getting a lot of turn out,?? Nevills said. ?We?re hoping this will be a shot in the arm for us.?

The next big joint GLIMA-Chamber event is the Halloween Treat Tech Expo scheduled for Oct. 31 from 9 am – 4 pm at the Western Michigan University Fetzer Center. Presenters include Microsoft, Compuware, Cisco and more. Booth space for vendors, at $250 each, remains open.
