TROY ? GLIMA members are looking to establish industry contacts, learn more about other technologies and create a social outlet for interactive participation with their peers in the Southeast Michigan technology community, says a new survey conducted by GLIMASoutheast.
The survey also found that GLIMA members want networking events separate from seminars and educational programming. GLIMA programs have been primarily monthly, educational-focused sessions that served up a keynote speaker or a panel that discussed industry trends and technologies. Now, armed with the results of its survey, GLIMASoutheast will change how it interacts with its 225 members.
?This year we?ll do two educational seminars, one in April and one in October,? said GLIMASoutheast President John Channel. ?Hosting regular monthly meetings overdoes it. We want to keep our educational programming quarterly to keep it fresh. Not that much changes in the industry in 30 days, but a lot may change in 90 days.?
Details aren?t finalized yet, but the breakfast seminars ? aimed at attracting 25 people or less – will focus on the hot button topics identified in the survey: Web technology and development, security in corporate network environment, LANs and WANs, marketing and advertising, project management, entrepreneurship and the telecom industry. The other big change is GLIMASoutheast will serve up monthly social programs, called 5:01s, to meet the networking needs of its members.
But monthly GLIMASoutheast meetings are now a thing of the past, Channel said. The current events calendar calls for just eight meetings. This fall, the GLIMASoutheast board will review members? reactions and decide whether to increase or decrease the number of events offered in 2006.
GLIMASoutheast events already on the books for this year include the annual State of the Net (this year subtitled State of Tech) scheduled for June 9 at the Tiger Den in Comerica Park; a 5:01 on Sep. 21; and the annual Holiday Party on Dec. 7.
