FLINT ? GlimaEast is taking a leadership role in the development of a

broadband and wireless system in Genesee County. A series of three forums, starting in June, will explore the best ways to put this advanced communication system in place.

The initiative began two years ago when Link Michigan did a broadband study of Genessee County, said GLIMAEast Treasurer John Foster, CEO of Convergent Technology Partners. A study was completed but languished on the shelves. GLIMAEast stepped up and told the country officials it could help.

?We told them we can bring the private sector to the table,?? Foster said. ?For the past several months we?ve taken a major role to bring these forums to the table.?

The first session will be June 8 from 8-11 a.m. at the Regional Technology Center at Mott Community College. Robert Filka from the Broadband Development Authority will join a panel of private sector people to talk about the benefits of broadband service for the country. They will try to identify how the county can get its hands broadband and wireless network development funds.
