PORT HURON ? Geographic Information System technology, used by Goggle to generate its online maps, will be explored May 23 at the monthly GLIMABlueWater meeting at the SEMCO Energy Gas Company’s Desmond Landing Building.

SEMCO, which has had a functional GIS system in development for the past three years, will provide a demonstration of some of its may uses and capabilities and discuss the career implications for IT professionals. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m.

What is GIS? A system that gives the user the ability to view and query data from multiple database sources and represent them electronically, using an interactive geographical mapping environment. It allows end users to get data without being a database expert, and delivers that data in an easier to understand environment. Ever use a Google map? That is a simple form of a GIS.

For those attending please park on Third Street in front of the 1411 building and enter the front revolving doors. Someone will great you and direct you to the 3rd floor meeting room. This event is free for members of GLIMA Blue Water. For non-members the cost is $10, payable at the door the evening of the event.
