KALAMAZOO – Enabling the Mobile Workplace is the theme of the Nov. 11 ConnecTech of Greater Kalamazoo in the Fetzer Center at Western Michigan University.

The worlds of compliance, risk management, information security and privacy are coming closer together. In fact, conversation about the convergence of Information Security and Privacy, in particular, has dominated Web sites, trade shows, conferences and journal articles over the last year. One of the many areas where this need for convergence is critical to your business is when you are setting up a mobile workforce.

What information security and privacy issues must be addressed for your personnel who work from their homes? What about for those who work while traveling? What about for your business partners and vendors who access your network remotely? Too many times the privacy/compliance and information security areas do not collaborate on the related issues, and end up either creating conflicting directives, or leaving huge risk gaps as a result of each area expecting that the other is going to address a particular issue.

Rebecca Herold will discuss her experiences working with these challenges, along with the general area of information security and privacy convergence, and discuss and provide advice for how information security and privacy collaboration to address a mobile workforce and remote business partners can not only increase the security and privacy of information, but also improve your business.

Herold is an independent information privacy, security, and compliance consultant, author, and instructor. She has over 15 years of privacy, education and information security experience, assists organizations of all sizes with their information privacy, security and regulatory compliance programs. She was selected as one of the top 59 most influential security experts of 2007 by ITSecurity.com and among the Top 25 Privacy Advisors by Computerworld.

A panel of experts will discuss the benefits and challenges of working outside the office. Panelists will share their ideas in the areas of cutting edge technology, security and privacy concerns, and how it affects a worker??s contribution and cohesiveness within the team.
