PORT HURON – Five finalists were chosen Tuesday for the Microsoft Extreme Small Business Makeover, valued at up to $25,000. The Makeover was part of the 2008 ConnecTech Port Huron Tech Expo.

The winner will be revealed on June 5 at the Quay Street Brewery. The finalists include BioPro Inc., Kerr Albert Office Supplies & Equipment, Mosher??s Jewelers, Port City Communications and St. Clair Home Loans.

The Expo, which took place on Thursday, May 15 at the Thomas Edison Inn in Port Huron, featured an Extreme Small Business Makeover with partners Microsoft and Analysts International. Local business owners were invited to apply for the Makeover, which will be given to the company best suited for the process.

Aimed at businesses seeking to use technology to help them grow and keep their data safe during these tough economic times, the idea behind the Makeover was to make a lasting difference for one company in the area.

??We really wanted to help make a positive impact on the community,? said Jim Brown, Microsoft Partner Manager for Michigan. ??We didn??t want to just throw a bunch of software at a company; we wanted to take the time to evaluate what they??re doing right now and how this Makeover can help them expand and grow. The five finalists we??ve chosen are here to stay, and we hope to help the region overall by giving the winner a boost.?

The winner will be chosen June 5 at 5 pm at the Quay Street Brewery; the public is welcome to attend this free event. Prizes for the Aerial Photo Contest and the Canned Food Drive from the Tech Expo will also be announced.
