BLOOMFIELD HILLS – Great Lakes Angels announced Monday that one of its portfolio companies, Blaze Medical Devices, has been selected to present at AdvaMed 2014 in Chicago in October.

The AdvaMed 2014 Business Development Committee reviewed 110 applications and selected 29 Emerging Growth Company Scholarships across 4 categories.

?We are honored to be selected to present at this prestigious event, as it gives us further opportunity to showcase our innovative technology for assessing damage to blood in a variety of contexts,? said Blaze COO Michael Tarasev.

?Our first research-use system is already eagerly awaited by various medical device and drug developers, for enhancing their hemocompatibility testing, and then medical versions of our test could offer a way to track quality loss of blood in storage. Adverse effects of transfusions are estimated to cause over $17 Billion in additional annual costs in the US alone, and the healthcare system is seeking solutions to ease this burden.?

Other winning companies hail from industry sectors including cardiovascular; patient monitoring; in vitro diagnostics; neurovascular, oncology and ophthalmic; orthopedic; and surgical devices and instruments.

This year?s conference will be held at McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago from October 6-8. It will bring together more than 1,000 companies for business development, capital formation, innovative technology showcasing, world-class educational opportunities and networking.
