DETROIT – Tonya Matthews PhD, president and CEO at the Michigan Science Center, kicks off a monthly segment on M2 TechCast Monday Feb. 5 when she will discuss how the center helps get young people, particularly young girls, interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.

Matthews launched the center’s STEMinista Project for girls in fourth through eighth grade, that offers special opportunities in STEM with girls in mind. STEMinista offers cool programs, special Michigan Science Center days, meet-and-greets with women who have interesting STEM jobs, and much more.

Just last week, it was announced that Matthews has been appointed to Board on Science Education at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. Matthews will join the chairman and 13 other members on BOSE, a standing board that guides a portfolio of work on science education broadly conceived in K-12, higher education and informal education settings, such as science museums, aquariums, nature centers and social networks.
