LANSING – After first inquiring with the utilities it regulates, the Michigan Public Service Commission urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to tell its interstate natural gas pipeline operators to adjust their rates in response to the lowered corporate tax rates under the new federal tax law.
The MPSC said the FERC should “take immediate action” to direct interstate natural gas pipelines to either voluntarily adjust their rates, or be subject to an investigation into whether the rates are “just and reasonable.”
MPSC member Rachael Eubanks said customers pay interstate transmission costs for electricity and pipeline costs of natural gas. But those rates are set at the federal level, so MPSC is asking FERC to do what the MPSC is doing with the utilities it regulates, and account for the savings under the new law for the rates that are set.
