ROYAL OAK – Robert Sanders, CEO of Managed Way, was on M2 TechCast July 11 to announce his company has opened another data center, this one in Troy. Managed Way focuses on telecommunications – cloud computing, fibers optics and co-location. So he also provides an update on the company he founded 15 years ago, after getting his start in IT setting up video games for his teenage friends out of his grandmother’s basement.

As Managed Way got larger in hosting, he created a new revenue line in telecommunications. He acquired some fiber optic networks, and then joined the rush to “cloud” computing – what he simply describes as “someone else’s computer.” The company has done little marketing or advertising relying on organic growth, he says in this podcast.

How well is Managed Way doing? Well, Sanders declined to say other than revealing he has thousands of customers served from data centers in Troy and Grand Rapids, Boston, Santa Clara in Silicon Valley, Miami and Amsterdam, Netherlands, just to name a few. He pays some 35 employees and is looking to hire a lot more.
