ROYAL OAK – Since Aug. 29, when the Federal Aviation Administration created drone pilot licenses, some 25,000 people have applied, says Enrico Schaefer, founder of DroneLaw.Pro in Traverse City. The FAA had predicted some 600,000 would apply.

The FAA also is reviewing regulations under part 107 that allow drone pilots to fly over people, something that is currently illegal. Schaefer predicts the regs will be changed in 12 to 18 months. Schaefer also reported on a couple of incidents with drones crashing into crowds, including a groom who flew his drone inside the party tent and crashed into two guests.
