SEATTLE – What is Jeff Bezos up to now? The Amazon Founder and CEO this week announced yet another new project called Amazon Vehicles where consumers can view vehicle-detail pages and reviews of thousands of new and classic cars, as well as uploading photos and videos of their own cars and trucks.

While Amazon is synonymous with online shopping, the new research portal isn’t stepping into vehicle transactions just yet. But it houses information one would expect to see on third-party shopping sites such as Cars.com and Autotrader.

Since you obviously can’t go and order a car through Amazon Prime, the main purpose of Amazon Vehicles seems to be comparison shopping. Like any Amazon product, anyone can write a review and each car has a Q&A section, which could prove useful if you’re curious about something specific, especially with older cars.

You can search for cars using a variety of parameters, including body type, year, MPG, and features, which makes this a pretty comprehensive starting point when you’re researching cars. Once you do land on a car, you can compare trims, engine types, and other features.

In an Amazon press release, the mega online e-tailer said Amazon Vehicles is an “extension” of the pre-existing Amazon Automotive store, where you can already purchase vehicles, tires, parts and various other pieces of cars you might need. Plus, you can already add information about cars you own to the Amazon Garage.

Just makes you wonder if Amazon, like Tesla, would like to sell cars directly to consumers and bypass the century-old dealer networks.
