ROYAL OAK – Red Level has brought a service in house that allows them to do Hardware As A Service – renting hardware monthly – rather than paying tens of thousands of dollars up front. Red Level offers Managed Service Contracts for one to three years.

Robert Tessanne Jr., Vice President Red Level, Cloud & Technology Solutions, explains The Red Level Managed Service Provider contracts and options. Tessanne said Hardware as a Service is a new nomenclature for managed services wrapped around IT devices and the software needed to keep those devices running. This concept has been honed by internet or cell phone service providers. They provide you with internet or cell services while providing you with the devices necessary to use those services such as your router or cell phone. The cost of these devices gets added to your monthly service bill as a rental item. This same concept is now being applied to IT hardware in businesses.

Red Level is helping its customers transform their IT and move from Capx to Opx. By letting them rent the device for the next three years there isn’t a huge outlay of capital it allows companies to stay up to date with their technology and keep the cash they need to keep growing.

As with most things in IT, newer is better. If you are working on an outdated laptop, with an outdated operating system, accessing the web through an outdated wireless router what is your experience like? Usually painful at best. Are you able to work efficiently? Are your files and underlying network secure? The answer is NO! HaaS allows companies to constantly run on the most efficient and secure devices and software without a huge capital outlay.

When asked what devices he recommends, Tessanne said:

  • From a client device perspective our customers prefer the Dell Latitude 5000 and 7000 series with the Intel Core i3 processor. These devices are light weight multi-tasking masters.
  • From a server perspective, we work a lot with the 13th Generation Dell PowerEdge servers. These are built with the latest Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 v3 product family which enables improved levels of operational efficiency and flexibility at any scale.
  • For networking switches we recommend the Dell N-Series. The N-Series is a family of energy-efficient and cost-effective 1GbE and 10GbE switches designed for modernizing and scaling network infrastructure.
  • For access and security we run our systems through the Dell SonicWall suite of products including our firewall, Network Security Appliance (NSA), wireless network security and WAN acceleration.

He also said HaaS includes the equipment rental with a three year renewal cycle on technologies. Clients receive the latest technology with set up, on going support and upgrades with a lower monthly cost. It is our regular managed service offering with hardware added in.
