FERNDALE – The Pure Michigan advertising in 2015 generated more than $1.4 billion in tourism spending, according to a recent report. Michelle Grinnell from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. talks about how successful the campaign has been since it was launched a decade ago. Some 4.2 million trips were made to the state in 2015 as a result of the Pure Michigan advertising campaign. As a result, some $98 million in tax revenue was generated on Pure Michigan ad spending of some $12 million.

The National advertising campaign is running now trying to woo even more tourists to Michigan. More than 5,000 ads are running on cable channels, including spots featuring Detroit as the comeback city. In May the focus shifts to the Great Lakes states to attract tourists that drive into the state. Toronto, Canada, and Chicago, Illinois, are both big tourism draws for Michigan.
