ANN ARBOR – Mike Klein, who served as co-CEO of data center provider Online Tech, has left the company to pursue other interests. No specific reason was given.

“Online Tech is a great company,” said Klein. “Online Tech grew at five-and-a-half times in the seven years I was there. Online Tech is now well positioned for growth.”

Klein said he would take a few months off for some “R&R, do some traveling, catch up on my reading.” He said around the first of the year he would look for an executive opportunity at a “turn around” or “mid-market company that has stalled.”

Klein’s duties now fall to Yan Ness, who shared the CEO title with Klein. Ness now is chief executive officer of the privately held company as well as a minority shareholder.

“I agree completely with Mike that Online Tech is a great company poised for continued high growth,” Ness said. “I would add that Mike was a huge part of that growth and many of what he put in place we will benefit from for years to come. We’re really thankful for his incredible commitment and wish him the best.”

Ness said Klein remains an owner of the company. He just isn’t involved in operations any longer.

Online Tech operates four data centers in Michigan – one near Detroit metro airport, two in Ann Arbor and one in Flint – and one in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In 2012, the News-Press & Gazette Company invested $20 million in Online Tech and took a majority share of the company.
